BAGHDAD, Iraq — A new arts space called Bağdadi Han has opened in the Şevaka neighborhood of Baghdad's historic center, bringing together visual artists under one roof. The venue, initiated by architect Ali al-Atirji, hosts exhibitions and workshops for artists from across Iraq, along with painting courses for fine arts students and the general public, and cultural discussions.
Painter Muhammad Kati al-Kinani said daily visitor numbers remain limited because the venue is still new. He noted that Iraq's consecutive wars and crises have reduced public interest in art, and that the traditional base of art buyers has largely moved abroad, replaced by investors in real estate.
Future programming includes music performances and invitations to additional artists, according to Kinani.
