Babil Police Arrest Suspect in 21-Year-Old Murder Case

Police in Babil province have arrested a suspect accused of murdering a woman in 2005, ending a two-decade evasion involving forged death records. The investigation was reopened after authorities discovered that the suspect had faked his own death to avoid prosecution. Following the discovery, security forces tracked the individual to the town of Mahmudiya, south of Baghdad. The suspect was apprehended during a court-authorized operation and has since confessed to the killing during interrogation. Investigators further determined that the suspect's brother-in-law facilitated the evasion by helping secure the fraudulent death certificate to close the legal case.
