DUHOK, Iraq โ A deputy director general of the Duhok Endowments Directorate said two men came to his home in the evening and attempted to physically assault him after verbally attacking him. The incident occurred as Abdurrezzak Kufli was preparing to go to a mosque for the evening prayer known as Isha.
Kufli said the two individuals arrived at his house, used insulting language and then tried to attack him. Security forces and relevant units responded to the scene and brought the situation under control. He filed an official complaint with the relevant authorities, saying legal proceedings would be initiated.
Kufli described the incident as a violation of the sanctity of his home and a personal affront. The attack attempt came after the Duhok Endowments Directorate's decision to regulate loudspeaker volume levels in mosques sparked debate. The directorate had said the measure does not target the call to prayer, but rather aims to adjust sound levels inside and around mosques, ensure the adhan is heard clearly, and prevent disturbance to nearby residents.
