Assets Seized in Baghdad Probe Into Oil Deputy Minister Case

BAGHDAD, Iraq — An investigative judge at Baghdad’s Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court said money and real estate were seized in a case involving the deputy oil minister’s liquidation affairs file. The Supreme Judicial Council said initial investigations into Adnan Muhammed Mahmud, who is in custody, and people linked to him had developed into broad legal action. About 40 properties were identified in Baghdad, Salahuddin and Erbil. Officials also said investigators seized about $10 million, 3 billion Iraqi dinars and around 1.5 kilograms of gold. A number of light and medium weapons were also found. The investigation is continuing to identify all people and parties connected to the crime, the council said.
