Iraqi police foil armed jewelry shop robbery in Baghdad's Karkh district, one suspect arrested

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad's Karkh district said they foiled an armed robbery attempt at a jewelry shop on Friday and arrested a suspect at the scene. The Karkh Police Command said officers from the Dutva police station were dispatched after receiving a report of the incident in the Dutva neighborhood. According to the command, responding officers quickly brought the situation under control and apprehended the suspect along with a knife he had used in the attack. An initial investigation found that the man had tried to steal gold from the shop and stabbed the owner in the neck and hand when he resisted. The suspect confessed during questioning that he had carried out the robbery and assault to seize gold items, the command said. Legal proceedings have been initiated and the suspect has been referred to the competent judicial authorities.
