Aramco shuts Jizan refinery after attack, partial restart targeted for August 2026

Saudi state oil company Aramco has shut its Jizan refinery, which has a processing capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, following an attack on the facility, the company said. The decision to halt operations came after damage to the refinery's integrated gasification combined cycle complex and an oil storage area, according to a note published by consultancy IIR. Aramco has begun repair work and expects to temporarily restart the refinery on August 15, 2026. The Jizan Refinery, commissioned in 2021, is among Saudi Arabia's newest and largest refining projects. It is located on the Red Sea coast near the Yemeni border in the country's southwest. The Houthi group claimed responsibility for a July 25, 2026 attack on Aramco facilities at the Jizan refinery and at Yanbu Port on the Red Sea, involving drones, ballistic and cruise missiles. No further operational details were immediately available.
