Apple says iPhone 17 lineup reaches 50% charge in about 20 minutes

Apple announced faster charging on its iPhone 17 series, saying the battery can reach roughly 50 percent in about 20 minutes when used with a compatible adapter and cable. Early tests cited by the company show the base iPhone 17 reaches charging speeds of around 27 watts, with higher-end models exceeding that level. The company said the improvement comes from new power management technologies, combined with a more energy-efficient processor and operating system that extend overall battery life. Apple also upgraded MagSafe and Qi 2.2 wireless charging support, allowing higher speeds on compatible pads. To reach peak wired charging speeds, Apple recommended its 40-watt adapter or a compatible third-party charger, noting that older accessories may limit performance. The announcement comes after years in which iPhone charging speeds trailed those of many Android rivals, a gap Apple appears to be narrowing with the iPhone 17 generation.
