BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Anbar Governor Omar Mahshan Dabbus said water is being released into Lake Habbaniyah at a rate of 50 cubic meters per second to raise the lake's water level, improve its environmental condition and provide a water source for nearby villages.
The decision was made during a phone call between the governor and Minister of Water Resources Munsna al-Tamimi, Dabbus said. The two discussed the lake's current state and water needs, and stressed support for sustainable resource management.
Dabbus said the water release represents a step toward addressing the lake's environmental challenges and will benefit settlements along its shore. Reviving Habbaniyah and supporting surrounding villages remain priority objectives, according to the statement.
