Amazon confirms funding Texas gas plant to power new data centers

Amazon confirmed Friday that it is financing a large-scale, dedicated natural gas power plant in Texas to supply energy to its new data centers in the state. The company said the facility could become one of the largest single sources of greenhouse gas emissions, noting that it is intended to support its U.S. data center infrastructure. Amazon officials said the project is designed to meet rising energy demand driven by artificial intelligence and cloud services. The plant is expected to feed the regional electricity grid as well as supply power directly to Amazon's data centers. The company said further details on the construction and operation of the plant will be released at a later stage. Amazon added that it is evaluating carbon capture and lower-emission technologies as part of efforts to reduce the project's environmental impact.
